The new Season of Go in Pokémon Go has kicked off, and so has the marathon of Pokémon Go Fest events that will occur throughout the season. That, of course, begins with the global for-everyone edition, which begins with the first day today. As noted, that alone is already different from years past in relation to its schedule, but there are a few other differences today, even though quite a bit of it is similar to the first day of the previous year.
Likewise, this day went from 10 AM to 6 PM, with four hourly habitats repeated once over. The four habitats were City, Plains, Rainforest, and Tundra, with each containing a selection of Pokémon that stand to live in each and encompass all generations currently present in Pokémon Go. In addition to those Pokémon, a special Pikachu wearing very characteristic flowers also appeared, and for those who did pay for the event, Incense also attracted Unown B, G, O, and U, as well as "regional" Pokémon of certain kinds (distributed in a specific real-world region, characteristic to a Pokémon world region, or a particular regional form), though the latter wasn't necessarily (possibly) Shiny. Lure Modules were extended while Incense was normal, but there was no halved Egg hatch distance unlike last year; however, a few other interesting Pokémon also appeared in raids, for which Trainers can enjoy raiding up to 9 of them freely. The best chance for Shiny remained today, though I would beg to differ by my experience.
Many of the same Pokémon from each habitat also became the focuses of four Collection Challenges, one for each habitat and each containing nine Pokémon. While it's not necessary to complete them all today, it's still in good posterity and impressive to be able to do so, moreover since two hours are effectively allocated for each habitat. As for the Special Research, it has 7 pages, which is short, but that's also because the branching mechanism is limited. This time, rather than exclusive Pokémon with accessories, the mechanism concerned focus skills (Battle, Catch, or Explore) and the difficulty level for each (Relaxed - easy, Standard - normal, Master - hard); the latter determines the extent of tasks and the former determines their content. Regardless of either, the Pokémon that awaits at the end is Shaymin in its Land Forme, which entails that the flower that Pikachu wears is the Gracidea flower, which is so identified with Shaymin.
Unlike last year, the conditions today somewhat more allowed for exploration, so my raid group held just a simple gathering - similar to but informal, unlike last Community Day - to realize the event in our local area physically. We worked on the Global Challenges (which were simply related to captures and their bonuses) and everyone really benefited, at least for the most part. I personally selected the Catch option on Standard difficulty, as it made best use of what was available as well as my skills; I know others who may have chosen the Relaxed difficulty, and that's fine. The Shaymin that I caught wasn't too great in stats, but others may have caught much better ones. What we may be able to deem not that great overall was the Shiny rate, which was dismal at the beginning and perhaps only minorly improved over the course of the day - maybe in some ways similar to this year's Go Tour. Regardless, Day 1 is done for all of us.
Also as with last year, some indications have been acknowledged for Day 2, which can be seen during the conclusion of the Special Research and particularly obviously in the Go Fest trailer video itself. Those indications may be said to be of a rather "ultra" kind - and maybe slightly nefarious as well. Day 1 regardless can be said to have been fruitful in many ways, but Day 2 might serve to be the one that bears fruit not only now but also for this season.
