It's been some time since there has been a Community Day Classic, so it's fitting that there would be one now. Now, the past two editions had featured starter Pokémon, so it would be an eventuality that an edition would feature a non-starter Pokémon, and that time has come. Incidentally, the Pokémon is (or was) also the first one featured that wasn't as such, if Pikachu is to be regarded as a "pseudo-starter". With those clues, it already becomes evident what this edition entails.
The featured Pokémon for this new edition is Dratini, which makes this the repeat edition of Community Day from February 2018, only the second ever. Like the preceding edition, its final evolved form of Dragonite gets the exclusive move of Draco Meteor, an incredibly strong Charged Move that is slightly disadvantageous in PvP. The bonus is tripled Stardust, which is once again a boon for those hungry for Stardust. The exclusive move might be of minor interest, but the Stardust bonus is definitely a major point.
And like previous editions of Community Day Classic, modern perks now apply to this edition, although looking at the list, this seems to be "barebones". Lure Modules and Incense are extended, there are surprise photo bombs, and the extra paid Special Research (titled just "Dratini Community Day Classic", an exploration of its deep lore) and specific Field Research tasks are present. There are no Candy bonuses or special raids, and the schedule is from 2 PM to 5 PM. It's still modern and refreshed but maintains its classic nature.
Since my previous first report above, a lot of things have happened to Community Day, including the way I chose to report things. Back then, it was rather experiential, but now I include the specific features of current editions, again as above. Way back when, Community Day was marked by meeting place disagreements, woes of the weather, and technical difficulties that extended the event for far longer than it should have been. This time, though, things are different just as much as they are the same.
With the current edition, my group this time all met in the same place, the weather was still a key concern (rain), and there were no technical difficulties to speak of. The rain limited movement, but spawns were still sizable all the same with Lure Modules and Incense extended. We caught as many Dratini as possible for their Stardust, but this time I chose only to evolve no more than a handful since Draco Meteor has very limited usage. The rest of the earnings will be to evolve them with different moves later on.
One more point of difference: after the main appearances ended, PokéStops began to turn gold. At first it was just a few, but then eventually nearly all of them became a golden hue. Spinning them rewarded a lot of items and led to the presence of a mystery Pokémon and Professor Willow to be called by a colleague in Paldea, the region of the upcoming Scarlet and Violet games; among those items is a mysterious (in both appearance and purpose) golden coin. It seems that all will have to be revealed in due time.
Notwithstanding the mysterious happening, this edition of Community Day Classic was quite neat. It went back to one of its early editions and essentially rectified it, in addition to updating it with more modern aspects. The unique mysterious happening only makes things that much more special and interesting. It has to be admitted that the bonuses this time around are rather minimalist, but that seems to be not a problem, as long as the event itself proceeds without a hitch... and that seems to be the case.
