The (Local) Pikachu Special Edition Oreo

Some years ago, Pokémon collaborated with Oreo cookies, resulting in a dazzling array of treats featuring some of the beloved species. Fast forward a few years later, and the collaboration has arrived locally, including in the form of a special edition featuring what has to be everyone's beloved species - that is, Pikachu. It is this special edition that I want to discuss in this post for its properties and peculiarities.

The special edition cookies can be succinctly described as a riff on the Golden Oreo variant, with a Pikachu motif on the cookies and a chocolate cream filling with a touch of banana flavor. Locally, they can be found in stores in two packages: a roll of 12 or a pack of six mini-packs with three cookies each. The latter is somewhat coveted as the pack also contains one of 16 collectible cards of a unique design.

I've had the chance to try out some of the special edition cookies, and... I must say that the banana flavor is quite cloying and a bit too much for me, despite the cookies still tasting good otherwise. I also bought the pack variant to obtain one of the collectible cards, and I got Rowlet of all the cards. It's still a pretty nice card, even though I can't stand the cookies, and will likely not be obtaining more for this purpose.

My other friends seem to be more receptive to the banana-flavored cookies, and that seems to be a good thing for them as well as their collection efforts. One person in particular was (and is still?) trying to find Mew but hasn't been that lucky, and the person has even bought a decent amount of the cookies for that purpose. It's a commendable effort, even though I wouldn't be able to do the same.

As peculiar as it might be - mostly for me personally and in taste - the local take on the Oreo collaboration with Pokémon has some pretty nice properties about it for people who like either or both, especially now in one package. It's a pretty nice one, even if it came to the local area somewhat late; even so, the attractiveness of it is still there for the fans desiring an opportunity to "eat what they love".
