A certain character in another franchise or series that I follow (that's for readers to figure out) sometimes addresses the issue of wasting food and disdains those who do it. Universally, it is agreed upon as a bad thing regardless of whether it occurs in fiction or reality. Even so, it seems some people may need further affirmation of this as a virtue. Pokémon fans in particular might be able to gain that affirmation if they consider the characters that may also have strong views regarding the topic, and at least some of these can be discerned.
One character that would be expected to have such strong views is Brock. Coming from a large family, food must go around a lot within that household. Conceivably, none of that food should ever go to waste for any reason. Being the cook of the household, and eventually for Ash and friends, he has to know how to make food taste good so that it gets eaten and not wasted. Though not a full-fledged professional chef, Brock obviously would be expected to have similar ideals to one, and that ought to include the views as above.
Similar views might also be espoused by Cilan, who also (had) accompanied Ash and friends on one journey. Cilan, being a self-described connoisseur of repute, would certainly have training closer to that of a professional chef and would have the views more ingrained. Evidently, Cilan would dislike anything that gets in the way of his cooking, therefore to the point of ruining the food and wasting it. If not for reasons of social welfare, at least for Cilan, it would be for reasons of maintaining an image of close-to-professional standards.
What ties these two together is that they deal with cooking in some way, which is incidentally what the other character deals with, to the point where it is similar to Cilan and Brock put together. Perhaps more likely, it would be somewhat more of Cilan and slightly less of Brock, as the character has more professional inclinations. This also goes to show that nuances of professionalism run across characters as they do across real people, and the notion of not wasting food is a part of those nuances that they possess.
It is apparent that when carefully considered, even Pokémon characters can and do promote views of not wasting food, in similar ways to the external character that I also mentioned in passing. All of them would be expected to appreciate anyone who goes out of their way in order to promote or possess similar ideals as they do, and those ideals are regardless something good to have even in real life. If anything, that ought to constitute sufficient affirmation that food is to be consumed wisely and not wasted.
